Dear friends & patrons out there,
It gives me great pleasure, to announce a new series of post, on various subjects, that are "unique" to Panchetgarh.
We will start this series with a very interesting topic. The "Garh khai" or "Parikha" or "Moat" around the Raj Bari.
" Moat" as per Wikipedia...
"a deep, wide ditch surrounding a castle, fort, or town, typically filled with water and intended as a defence against attack."
As per available records, and stories that, I have heared from my forefathers ,it took 5 long years and an army of 1000 labourers to build this 30 to 40 ft wide & 15 ft deepwater body.
As we zoom down on "Google Earth" we are surprised to see a perfectly rectangular water body embracing & protecting the Raj Bari.
That is exactly what it was build for.
The "Gar khai" has indeed done it's job quiet well.
It still protects us.
